Buccaneer Blast 10/31/25

Posted Date: 10/31/25 (3:45 PM)

Throughout November, we’re celebrating Thankful Thursdays at MCE! On November 6, 13, and 20, we’ll be sharing messages from our MCE families and community members about why you’re thankful for our amazing staff.

We invite you to share a note of appreciation for any MCE staff member.  This can be a teacher, assistant, office staff member, custodian, or anyone who’s made a difference. You might mention something kind they’ve done, a moment you remember, or simply share your gratitude for their work with our students.

Your messages will be featured with our staff each Thursday in November as we head into Thanksgiving.  We are giving everyone a head start to send those notes in.  Please fill out this google form CLICK HERE to share.

Thank you for helping us celebrate the incredible people who make MCE such a wonderful place for kids to learn and grow!

Car Rider Line Safety & Efficiency
In efforts to maintain safety, we need children to be ready to exit the car in the morning. If your student is not ready, the line can be delayed. In order to prevent delays, you may be asked to circle back around if your student is not ready when it is their turn.
Please do not get out of the car to assist your student, as this delays the line and is a safety hazard. If you need to get out of your car to help, you may be asked to park or circle back around so that the line can continue moving.
Vehicles should not pass or go around other cars unless school personnel is present and waves you around.
Please work with your student on getting in the car and fastening seat belts quickly. Adults getting out of the car creates a safety concern.

Morning Arrival Tips

Many MCE families have chosen to use our car line. Efficiency in our line improved greatly over the past year. A few things that you can do to help include:
  • Move car seats to the side of the car where your student enters and exits.
  • Help your child learn how to manage the buckle independently (the goal is for all adults to stay in the vehicle).
  • Make sure the book bag and other supplies are close to your child so they can grab them quickly.
  • Pull all the way up (to the cone or the nearest car in front of you).
  • We do not dismiss students one at a time in front of the main entrance (even if it’s raining, snowing, or cold).

Afternoon Dismissal Expectations

  • All students need to get in on the right side of the car.
  • Students should be able to close their door and buckle on their own.
  • You will be asked to keep the car line moving.
  • If you need extra time to buckle your child, please pull ahead and park in a parking spot to secure your student before heading out.

We really enjoy seeing our families at arrival and dismissal! Thank you for your help in making our car rider line safer and more efficient.

Morning of Late Drop-Off Reminder

If you are dropping your student off after 7:35 am, you will need to drop them off at the front door.  Also, adults need to come in and sign the child in as tardy.  Please do not just send your child into the school.

District Updates

Annual Hearing Screenings

In accordance with Indiana state law, Mt. Comfort Elementary will conduct annual hearing screenings for all Kindergarten, 1st, 4th grade, and new students on Tuesday, November 4th, 2025.

Please note:

  • These screenings are routine and help identify any students who may need a more comprehensive hearing test.

  • Parents/guardians will be notified only if the child fails the hearing screening.

  • If your child does not pass the initial screening, your child will be rescreened within a few weeks.

If you do not wish for your child to participate in the hearing screening, you must send a written request to:

Erin Siefker
