Mt. Vernon Spirit Wear

Fun Cart Fridays are usually the first Friday of every month and our kids LOVE IT! The PTO provides fun fidgets, stickers, pokemon cards, etc to the kids each month for purchase during lunch time. Fun Cart Friday will never be more than $1. They can bring a buck or bring 5. Each month we will offer different items to keep the surprise there for them. At the end of the year, we will do grab bags that will include items that we still have from throughout the year. If you'd like to take a shift doing the fun cart and give your kiddo a hug at the same time, sign up here.

We sure do love our staff at MCE! There are lots of things we do for them throughout the year but I think the appreciation carts are the most fun! You have the opportunity to choose a theme, decorate if you like and go door to door surprising our staff with all the goodies you have brought in for them to say THANK YOU! If you're lucky, you'll catch a glimpse or two of your little one. Participating in the Teacher Appreciation Cart is a great way to meet all of our staff and put their names with faces. The signup for the cart is always on a Friday BUT if you prefer to do it on a different day of the week, its fine as long as we have approval from Mr. Turner. We try our best to not interfere with testing or other important dates at the school. Grab your spot today if you'd like to be a part of this! If you aren't able to come in and would like to donate snacks and/or drinks of any kind for the cart, you can drop them off in the office for the PTO. We will make sure we get them to the person who is doing the cart that month.

MCE Updates
Counseling UPDATES
Dear MCE Families,

We are committed to supporting the overall well-being of our students and believe mental health is an important part of overall health.

We currently partner with Cartwheel to support the mental health needs of our students via virtual therapy with licensed clinicians. Up until now, a student had to be identified and referred for these services by our school team.

Today, we are pleased to share that you can now request these services directly for your child. Oftentimes, families are the first to recognize that their child might need mental health support so we want to make it as easy as possible for your family to access these services.

Here are some signs to look out for to determine if your child might benefit from this support:

  • Changes in mood or behavior

  • Changes in eating or sleeping patterns

  • Declining academic performance

  • Withdrawal from friends or activities

  • Increased anxiety or stress

  • Expressing feelings of sadness or hopelessness

  • Experiencing transition (related to life, family, peers, school)

  • Exposure to a traumatic event

Check out these FAQs about the types of challenges Cartwheel can support, how it works, and more.

TECHNOLOGY UPDATES
Dear Families,
As we continue to partner with you in supporting our students' learning and well-being, we want to remind you that parents and guardians are responsible for monitoring their child’s technology use at home. This includes:
  • Phone calls and text messages
  • FaceTime and video chats
  • Online gaming conversations and chat features
  • Social media and other digital interactions
While our school does monitor activity on school-issued devices—even when they are at home—this monitoring is limited to the school device. We do not have the ability to monitor personal devices or accounts outside of the school system.
Please take time to talk with your child about responsible digital behavior, safety, and respectful communication. Together, we can help ensure a safe and positive online environment for all students.
Thank you for your support and continued partnership.
Here is a helpful video with tips and strategies for managing kids and technology:
Helpful Video

Dear Families,

We want to make you aware of an important issue impacting our school community. Recently, we have seen an increase in damage to student Chromebooks linked to viral social media challenges. These trends often encourage students to engage in risky behaviors that can result in costly damage to school-issued devices.
Please take a moment to speak with your child about the importance of using their Chromebook responsibly and remind them that intentionally damaging school property has serious consequences. Intentional damages are not covered by the optional device protection plan and will result in the cost of repairs. Together, we can help students make safe, thoughtful choices and protect valuable learning tools.
Thank you for your partnership and support.

YMCA INTEREST

We are conducting a survey to see if your school district would be interested in an Intermediate Before and After Care Program with the YMCA. If you could, please take a moment to let us know how we can assist you and your child in their intermediate school experience.

News from the Library

Parents:

The Mt. Comfort library would like to thank you and your students for taking good care of library books this year. As we approach the end of the year, we need your assistance to help find any missing library books or pay for lost books. Please note, we never charge an overdue fine. The only fee charged would be for a lost or destroyed book.  Parents can pay for lost/damaged library books via MVCSC’s eFunds link.  Click on PAY for Optional Fees, then choose Lost/Damaged Library Books. Books can be returned at any point and to any school library. Keep looking under those beds and in the car!

Illness

Mt. Comfort Elementary Car Riders

In efforts to maintain safety, we need children to be ready to exit the car in the morning.  If your student is not ready, then the line can be delayed.  In order to prevent delays, you may be asked to circle back around if your student is not ready when it is their turn.  Please do not get out of the car to assist your student as this delays the line and is a safety hazard.  If you need to get out of your car to help, you may be asked to park or circle back around so that the line can continue moving.

Also, vehicles should not pass or go around other cars unless school personnel is present and waves you around.

Please work with your students on getting in the car and fastening seat belts quickly.  Again, adults getting out of the car presents a safety issue.

Car Rider Line: Many MCE families have chosen to use our car line.  Efficiency in our line improved greatly over the past year. A few things that you can do to help include:

  • moving car seats to side of the car where your student enters and exits

  • helping your child learn how to manage the buckle independently (the goal is for all adults to stay in the vehicle)

  • and making sure the book bag and other supplies are close to your child so he or she can grab them quickly

  • pull all the way up (to the cone or nearest car in front of you)

  • we do not dismiss students one at a time in front of the main entrance (even if its raining, snowing, or cold)

We really enjoy seeing our families at arrival and dismissal!

Thank you for your help in making our car rider line safer.
