Buccaneer Blast- Welcome to Week 2

Posted Date: 8/11/25 (6:45 AM)

Welcome Back, MCE!
What a great first week of school at MCE! I’ve seen a lot of smiling faces, kids learning new routines, talking with friends, and students already diving into learning. That’s exactly how we want to start the year.
We’re going to work hard, treat each other with respect, and make the most of every single day. Our teachers have high expectations because we know our students can rise to meet them.
Parents- Thank you for getting your kids here on time, ready to learn, and for supporting the work we’re doing in the classrooms.
Let’s keep this momentum going. It’s going to be a great year at MCE.

MCE Happenings

This school year, 2nd grade will be partnering with Bentley's Buddies and Friends—a nonprofit that brings therapy dogs into schools to help kids grow in their reading.

We need 5 volunteers with therapy dogs near the Mount Vernon area to make this possible for our 2nd-grade team!

Know someone with a calm, loving pup who wants to give back?

Reach out to Nickie to learn how to get involved or visit their website to learn more!

Let’s spread the love of reading—one wagging tail at a time!

Help us by sharing the message!

MCE PTO

If you’re new to MCE, here’s the scoop.  Every year our PTO creates a new t-shirt for all of our students to wear on class field trips.  Class shirts help to easily identify students when we are away from school. These shirts are not required, just preferred. PTO does their best to offer them at a reasonable cost for everyone.  Don’t wait till it’s too late!  Sales will end September 3rd and will NOT be offered again.  All shirts that are ordered will be delivered directly to your student @ MCE to bring home.

Car Rider Line Safety & Efficiency
In efforts to maintain safety, we need children to be ready to exit the car in the morning. If your student is not ready, the line can be delayed. In order to prevent delays, you may be asked to circle back around if your student is not ready when it is their turn.
Please do not get out of the car to assist your student, as this delays the line and is a safety hazard. If you need to get out of your car to help, you may be asked to park or circle back around so that the line can continue moving.
Vehicles should not pass or go around other cars unless school personnel is present and waves you around.
Please work with your student on getting in the car and fastening seat belts quickly. Adults getting out of the car creates a safety concern.

Morning Arrival Tips

Many MCE families have chosen to use our car line. Efficiency in our line improved greatly over the past year. A few things that you can do to help include:
  • Move car seats to the side of the car where your student enters and exits.
  • Help your child learn how to manage the buckle independently (the goal is for all adults to stay in the vehicle).
  • Make sure the book bag and other supplies are close to your child so they can grab them quickly.
  • Pull all the way up (to the cone or the nearest car in front of you).
  • We do not dismiss students one at a time in front of the main entrance (even if it’s raining, snowing, or cold).

Afternoon Dismissal Expectations

  • All students need to get in on the right side of the car.
  • Students should be able to close their door and buckle on their own.
  • You will be asked to keep the car line moving.
  • If you need extra time to buckle your child, please pull ahead and park in a parking spot to secure your student before heading out.

We really enjoy seeing our families at arrival and dismissal! Thank you for your help in making our car rider line safer and more efficient.

Morning of Late Drop-Off Reminder

If you are dropping your student off after 7:35 am, you will need to drop them off at the front door.  Also, adults need to come in and sign the child in as tardy.  Please do not just send your child into the school.
