2026-2027 School Year
Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation is applying to continue using an Ed Flex waiver, which allows flexibility in the qualifications for paraprofessionals in our Title I schools. This waiver has allowed us to expand the definition of “highly qualified” to include any one of the following: two years of college coursework, an associate degree, a passing score on the ParaPro assessment, one year of experience in a school or working with children, satisfactory annual school evaluations, or completion of required training set by the district.
We are not making changes to these qualifications but are seeking to continue with the same criteria moving forward. MVCSC values community feedback and is seeking public comment as part of this process.

Notification of Administration: Universal Dyslexia and Math Screener
Dear Parent or Guardian,
Indiana law requires all public schools to administer universal screeners to students in kindergarten through second grade to help identify students who may need additional support in reading and mathematics.
Dyslexia Screening
In accordance with Indiana Code 20-35.5, all K-2 students participate in a universal screener for characteristics related to dyslexia within the first 90 days of the school year. Dyslexia is a learning difference that primarily affects reading, spelling, and the ability to connect letters with the sounds they represent.
If a student is identified as being at risk or at some risk for characteristics related to dyslexia, parents will be notified of the screening results and informed of the next steps, which may include requesting permission to administer a Level I diagnostic assessments.
Mathematics Screening (New this Year)
Indiana Code 20-32-6.5 also requires all K-2 students to participate in a universal math screener. MVCSC uses the i-Ready Inform for Mathematics assessment, an adaptive online screener approved by the Indiana Department of Education. This brief assessment helps identify students who may benefit from additional mathematics support and allows teachers to better meet students' instructional needs.
After each screening has been completed, you will receive your child's results. If the results indicate that additional support or follow-up is recommended, your child's school will provide you with more information about the next steps.
